Version 1.0
BY
Bryan Beals
What is BreNet?
BreNet is a new form of mail door to play Inter-BBS Barren
Realms Elite with out the use of a mailers such as Intermail.
How old is this door?
This doors release date is set for 5-19-95.
How do I get updates?
You can call my BBS for updates. The Game Grid 714-528-7459
open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Just sign in as a new user you
will be able to get updates with out being verified.
What is the registration cost of this door?
To make this door easy to afford I am setting the price at $10
If you are a door writer I will also trade for one of your doors
registered. Please contact me on The Game Grid if you wish to do
so.
What other files do I need?
You need to have DSZ.COM in you computers path.
Setting up BreNet
1. Set up you copy of BRE as instructed its documents.
2. Do a BRE IPSETUP
3. For you node # select some thing like 1:1/1 since you will be
BBS #1 in the net.
4. Select different directories for each incoming and out going
mail. Normally this is like c:\bre\inbound and c:\bre\outbound
5. For Mailer type select NONE.
6. Do a BRE NODELIST Setting yourself up as BBS #1 and make sure
you use the same node address you used in your BRE IPSETUP.
7. Enter the other BBS's in your league into the nodelist making
the node address different. 1:1/2 for node 2, 1:1/3 for node 3
ext.
8. Go into the BreNet directory and write your configuration file.
Look at the sample BRENET.CFG for more information.
9. Run The Program setup.exe and tell the program the name of each
nodes account (The name they log into the BBS as.) and there node
number from BRE NODELIST
10. BreNet will not let any caller who's name is not been setup
into the door and will return them to the BBS.
What you and the other nodes need to do.
The nodes all must setup there copies of BRE as well.
They must do their own BRE IPSETUP with this info. Their inbound
directory must be the same directory that their Com-program(such as
telix) puts all there downloads. The outbound dir should be a temp
dir. They must put in the same node address in there BRE IPSETUP as
you put in your BRE NODELIST. They must also set there mailer type
to NONE.
They each must create a Route.cfg in there BRE dir containing this
line.
Route * 1
Simple right. :)
You must also give them a copy of the brnodes.dat in your BRE dir.
This file has all the info you entered in BRE NODELIST.
Doing their nightly runs
Each BBS must make 1 call to your bbs each day.
Step 1.
They must do a BRE REQUEST followed by a BRE OUTBOUND
Step 2.
They Must zip up the file(s) in there outbound directory into 1
file named something like Node(X).zip . X being there node #.
Pkzip -d -a c:\telix\node2.zip *.*
From your Outbound directory should zip them up and delete the
files and place the zip file in your communications program
directory.
Step 3.
if Pkzip didn't do it delete the original files that they just
zipped up.
Step 4.
Call your BBS and enter the BreNet door.
Step 5.
After a waiting period of 3 seconds they must UPLOAD the zipped
file they made in step 2. In this version Only ZMODEM is used.
Step 6.
The Door will then send them there files and log them off the BBS.
Step 7.
They delete the zipped file they uploaded to your BBS.
Step 8
They Run a BRE INBOUND to absorb the data they just downloaded.
BRE will del the files for them.
Step 9
Run the BRSCORES.EXE file that came with BRE. This will Make the
IBBS score files.
You may need to configure BRSCORES.EXE 1st.
AND THERE DONE!
To run the program type BRENET <CONFIGURATION file name>
Your Nightly Maintenance
Step 1.
Unzip the files that the nodes uploaded to you into your inbound
mail directory. BreNet will place these files in a directory
called IN under BreNet.
Step 2.
Delete the zipped files in the IN directory.
Step 3.
Go to the BRE directory and Run a BRE REQUEST then a BRE PLANETARY.
Step 4
Run you own BRSCORES.EXE

Trouble shooting
Fossil Driver Support
---------------------
DoorFrame supports the use of Fossil drivers. To tell your Door to
use the Fossil driver instead of the standard COM ports, just put
/FD on the command line when running the door. For example:
BBRENET BRENET.CFG /FD
indicates that a Fossil driver is present and should be used. If no
Fossil driver is detected, DoorFrame will print a message to that
effect and exit the door gracefully.
Environment Variables
---------------------
DoorFrame supports COM 1-4 on the standard IRQ's - COM1/COM3 = IRQ4
and COM2/COM4 = IRQ3. If you wish to use a non-standard IRQ, add
the IRQ number after the configuration filename. Let's assume your
Door is called FOOBAR and you want to use COM1 and IRQ5. The
command line passed to your Door would be:
FOOBAR FOOBAR.CFG /5 or
FOOBAR FOOBAR.CFG /%IRQ% for the environment variable.
The /5 tells DoorFrame to use IRQ5 rather than the standard IRQ4
that is normally used with COM1. No /x parameter is needed for the
standard IRQ's.
When specifying the location of the system file on line 1 of the
doors .CFG file, you may use the environment variables %pcbdrive%,
%pcbdir%, %pcbnode%, and %wcnodeid%. Some examples: PCBoard:
USERS.SYS in C:\PCB - %pcbdrive%%pcbdir%\USERS.SYS
USERS.SYS in C:\PCB\NODE1 -
%pcbdrive%%pcbdir%\NODE%pcbnode%\USERS.SYS
Wildcat!:
USERINFO.DAT in C:\WC\NODE1 - C:\WC\NODE%wcnodeid%
Non-PCBoard systems may use the PCB environment variables by
setting them
in either AUTOEXEC.BAT or in the batch that runs the door. For
example:
SET PCBDRIVE=C:
SET PCBDIR=\BBSDIR
SET PCBNODE=1
486DX CPU's
-----------
The math coprocessor in 486DX CPUs cannot handle floating point
math which all MicroSoft Basic's use. This can show up as an ERROR
5, a keyboard timeout, etc.
Fortunately there is an easy fix for this problem. Simply place the
following line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
SET NO87=ON
Thanks to Jack Tuttle for all his help in getting this darn thing
working!
